First step in planning your Wedding.

by Ron Taylor on 01/01/15

Happy New Year!  Hope you were blessed with your 2015 New Year celebration.  Last night, at the stroke of midnight, thousands of couples became engaged, this includes my sister in-law Hilda.  Congratulations to Hilda and Scott, I am super excited for the two of you.

So what happens now, it’s time to plan your wedding.  The planning part can be a bit stressful, but if your like me, I stick to the KIS method, keep it simple.  When I say simple, I don’t mean cheap, but instead minimizing the amount of stuff that is included in the wedding such as large props, full scale decorations, etc.   It’s important that you and your fiancé agree on what to include in the wedding.  Do you want it to be lavish or simple but beautiful?  My advice to you would be that the two of you physically write down on separate sheets of paper what you imagine to be your dream wedding.  When your done, compare your dreams, and then decide on what to keep and what to take out.  Usually the budget is the deciding factor of your dream wedding, so be sure to set your budget limit.  I recently read an article on theknot.com, it said that the national average cost of a wedding in 2013 was $29,858.  The average fee for a minister was $260.00; I charge $120.00, half of the national average.  The average cost of a photographer was $2440.00, I only charge $150.00.  My package deal is just $210.00, it includes me as your minister, and my wife as your photographer.  I like keeping my prices affordable because I know that there are many people like you and me that are struggling financially, so in this way, we can be a blessing to each other.  By the way, ten percent of what I receive goes to the Lord (tithe), and another percentage goes to help the homeless and poor.

So to recap, your first step to planning is to share your dreams with each other, then take out what you like or can be eliminated, and then set a realistic budget.

Happy wedding and Happy New Year!

Ron
